2006 CPHA/ Mac McHugh Stock Seat Medal Class Specifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Open to Youth and Amateur Adult Riders of any age who are registered with the CPHA. Rider must be current PCHA member. (Trainers of riders in this class must also be a member of the CPHA and the PCHA.)

SPECIFICATIONS:
The routine is to be judged on equitation only. Ten (10) points are needed to qualify for the Medal Final. The points are compiled by the following procedure: 7 points to 1st, 5 points to 2nd, 4 points to 3rd, 3 points to 4th, 2 points to 5th, and 1 point to 6th.

To fill a class, three (3) riders with proper appointments must enter, show and be judged.
Any rider who has received ten (10) points and is qualified for the CPHA/Mac McHugh Stock Seat Medal Class Finals may continue to show in the class until the finals.


CPHA MAC MCHUGH STOCK SEAT MEDAL FINALS SPECIFICATIONS

  1. A Technical Delegate will be assigned to assist in the process of point tabulation, award organization, and the pattern selection process. In addition, the TD will act as a mediator in the event of a dispute.
  2. All Finalists will be judged on a pre-determined pattern. Proper horsemanship attire is required.
  3. Each finalist will start with a 70 as a pattern score. Taking off or adding points for each maneuver. Maneuver scores are as follows:+1 ½ Excellent, +1 Very Good, +1/2 Good,-1/2 Poor -1Very Poor, -1 ½ Extremely Poor
  4. At the end of each work there will be a 1-10 equitation score added to the maneuver score.                                                                                                                                               

Required Penalty points are as follows:

  1. Not following the required pattern or not attempting a maneuver (off course) must receive a 0 score.
  2. Over/Under pivoting up to ¼ must receive a 2-point penalty score. Over ¼ must receive a 0 score.
  3. Failure to accomplish a maneuver correctly in the pattern must receive a 5-point penalty score.
  4. Any break of gait must receive a 2-point penalty score (for each break).
  5. Misconduct will result in a 5 point penalty score (i.e.: kicking out, rearing or bucking) The following will result in a no score:
    1. Use of illegal equipment, including wire on bit, bosals or curb chains.
    2. Use of illegal bits, bossels or curb chains.
    3. Use of tack collars, tie downs or nosebands.
    4. Use of whips.
    5. Use of an attachment, which alters the movement of or circulation to the tail.
    6. Disrespect or misconduct by the exhibitor.
    7. The judge may excuse a horse at any time while in the arena for unsafe conditions or improper exhibition pertaining to both the horse and or rider. This may include the exhibition of an animal, which is clearly not in a fit or sound condition.
    8. The use of abusive equipment, and/or the use of abusive showing techniques by the rider.
    9. The exhibition of a horse that has a cut or abrasion showing clear evidence of fresh blood in the mouth, nose, chin, shoulder, barrel, flank or hip area (those areas reasonable to believe the injury may have been caused by the rider or equipment) must be considered cause regardless of how the injury was caused.
    10. While each judge is required to disqualify a horse exhibited in the manners described above, it should be noted that in every case the exhibitor should be given the benefit of any doubt, should any doubt occur.
  1. Judges are required to utilize the CPHA Medal class scoring system and score sheet. Each maneuver will be scored accordingly: -1 ½ to 0 to +1 ½ and at the end of each go an Equitation score of 0-10 will be added to the total of the maneuver score.
  2. Judges are responsible to confirm their scores following each round and sign the score sheet.
  3. Round and Final, scores in the order of placing, will be posted in a timely manner following the awards presentation.
  4. Optional tests may be utilized: Extended gaits, dropped stirrups.
  5. One Horse/Rider combination. (No Exceptions)
  6. 15. In case of a tie for champion, the tied riders will work off repeating the same pattern they just performed. Order of go will remain the same as the previous ride. All ties other than for champion will be broken by a call judge who will be designated on day one for the duration of the finals.

  1. Jog
  2. Lope right lead
  3. False lead left circle
  4. Right circle
  5. Figure “8”(2 *changes; simple or flying)
  6. Break to jog
  7. Two track right
  8. Two-track left
  9. Stop. Full turn each way
  10. Extended jog
  11. Stop and back



C.P.H.A. Qualifying Pattern #2 (Click here for pattern)

  1. Start at center of arena facing down arena, extend the jog.
  2. At center pick up left lead circle left.
  3. At center counter canter a circle to the right.
  4. Break to jog at center of circle.
  5. When you reach the top of your circle two track left, then two track right to center of arena.
  6. Stop, 1 ½ pivot to the right.
  7. Pick up right lead, circle right at center of circle change leads (simple or flying)
  8. Lope out of circle and down the side of arena change leads (simple or flying) at center of arena.
  9. Continue loping to end of arena and stop.

C.P.H.A. Qualifying Pattern #3 (Click here for pattern)

  1. Start on left lead facing at a diagonal down arena.
  2. At center of arena change leads (simple or flying) to right lead.
  3. Counter lead around end of arena. At center, change leads (simple or flying) to left lead.
  4. Continue around side of arena, stop at ¾ of arena, roll back to the right, coming out on the right lead.
  5. When you reach the center, turn right, break to extended jog, and continue past center.
  6. Stop, 1 ¾ pivot to left, side pass 5 steps to the right.
  7. Pick up jog, two-track left, and two-track right.
  8. Stop and side pass 5 steps to the left and back 8 steps.

*Flying or simple changes are optional, and are of equal value.

A protest must be filed within one hour of the conclusion of the class. No money need be given with the protest, but it must be in writing, signed by the protester, and handed to a member of the appeals Committee, who consists of the horse show manager, the TD and the Steward of the show.
